Biography

Michael Windelspecht has never been one to follow the traditional path. From chasing summaries across the Atlantic while in the Navy, to earning a doctorate in evolutionary genetics, raising two children, becoming one of the leading authors of science textbooks, and yes, even screwing up a BBQ restaurant.

Michael owes his success (and even some of his failures) to his innate desire to think outside the box. Noticing the many barriers that prevent students from obtaining quality science education, including lack of engagement and relevancy, Michael sought out new and innovative ways to produce science content. His unique methods have proven successful, selling well over 100,000 copies of his books a year. In addition to the books he has published, Michael leads students on educational experiences that inspire people of all ages to become more knowledgeable in biology, ecology, and conservation efforts.

Michael also contributes greatly to the communities where he lives and works, donating funds and in-kind support to organizations including the following: The Belize Wildlife & Referral Clinic, Belize Raptor Center, Belize Zoo, and Tobacco Caye Marine Station.
